Child Welfare Research Collaborative
The Child Welfare Research Collaborative (CWRC) is comprised of
faculty at San Jose State University’s School of Social Work who
work collaboratively with community partners to conduct research on
pressing child welfare issues. Projects conducted by members of the
CWRC have focused on:
- Collaboration between child welfare and substance abuse
treatment related fields
- Factors related to resilience and successful outcomes among
former foster youth
- Educational outcomes for former foster youth
- Factors related to racial/ethnic disproportionality in the
child welfare system
- Impact of reunification services on family stability for
children and youth in the child welfare system
- Impact of policies, such as the Adoption and Safe Families Act
and California’s Mental Health Services Act, on child welfare
outcomes
- Mental health service utilization among children and youth in
the child welfare system
- Collaboration between the child welfare and mental health
delivery systems
- Substance use/abuse among current and former foster youth
Projects conducted by members of the CWRC are funded from a
variety of sources and are developed and conducted in collaboration
with County child welfare systems, public social service systems,
policy-makers and families and youth involved in the child welfare
system.
